Erinnerungen / Memories

Als wir am Mittwoch noch die letzten Sachen in der alten Wohnung meiner Mutter aufräumten, habe ich das hier entdeckt. Die verschiedenen Wachstumstadien meiner Tochter, gemessen und notiert von meinem Vater. Irgendwann zwischen 2005 und 2006 war meine Tochter auf einmal größer als ich.

I found this behind the door in my mum's old flat while we were putting away some more things last Wednesday. You can se how my daughter grew up, measured and noted by my dad. Some time between 2005 and 2006 she was taller than I all of the sudden. 

Das nachfolgende Bild zeigt einen von meinem Onkel (in den USA) geknüpften Teppich, wir haben ihn schon in der neuen Wohnung aufgehangen. Das Motiv ist Šternberk, unsere Heimatstadt. Heute habe ich meiner Cousine in Amerika ein Foto davon geschickt, sie hat auch so einen.

The following photo shows a carpet handmade by my uncle (in the US), we have already hung it up in the new flat. It shows Šternberk, our hometown. I sent a photo of it to my cousin in America today, she has the same. 

Und sonst? Sonst habe ich heute Schnitzel und Kartoffelsalat für 10 Personen vorbereitet, falls jemand nach dem Umzug Hunger hat. Jetzt ist Ruhe vor dem Sturm.

What else? Today I prepared schnitzel and potato salad for 10 persons, in case someone will be hungry after the moving. Now it's silent before the storm. 

Kurzes Lebenszeichen / Short Sign of Life

Ich war ziemlich krank (zusammen mit der halben Bevölkerung Dortmunds). Seit Donnerstag arbeite ich wieder und bin ziemlich beschäftigt. 

Am Montag fliege ich kurzfristig in die USA, für ein paar Tage. Leider sind dort aktuell Temperaturen bis zu minus 10 Grad C.

I have been quite ill (together with half of Dortmund's population) and have been back to work since Thursday and very busy. 

On Monday I'm going to the US on very short notice, for a couple of days only. Unfortunately, they have temperatures up to minus 10 degrees C at the time being. 

Das habe ich letzte Woche gefunden: Einschulung meiner Tochter, mit Dany. / I found this last week: my daughter's first day at school, together with Dany.

Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum 21. Geburtstag, meine liebe erwachsene Tochter, Mama von zwei tollen Jungs, Ehefrau und nun auch Auszubildende. Du hast viel erreicht in den letzten Jahren, wir sind sehr stolz auf dich.

Congratulations for your 21st birthday, my lovely adult daughter, mum of two wonderful boys, wife and now also a trainee. You have come a long way in the past years, we are very proud of you. 

Party Season

Zunächst war da die nächste Hochzeit: / Then there was the next wedding:

Die kirchliche Trauung meiner Tochter war sehr schön und die darauffolgende Party lang und unterhaltsam.

My daughter's church wedding ceremony was very nice and the following party long and entertaining. 

Und dann war da noch das CL spiel gegen Olympique Marseille, zu dem ich kurzfristig eine Karte kaufen konnte. Den Abend widmete ich meinem verstorbenen Onkel Henry (seinem Geburtstag) und BVB beglückte uns mit einem souveränen 3:0 Sieg.

Then there was the CL match vs. Olympique Marseille. I was lucky to get a ticket shortly before and the evening was dedicated to my departed uncle Henry (his birthday). BVB made us happy with a confident 3:0 victory. 

Jetzt steht uns ein langes Wochenende bevor und die Feier des 1. Geburtstags unseres zweiten Enkels.

There's now a long weekend ahead and the celebration of our second grandchild's 1st birthday.  

Meine Lieben / My Loved Ones

Noch so eine Gewohnheit: wenn wir Zeit haben, treffen wir uns samstags zum Frühstück. Mit all meinen Lieben.

Real Life Beats Blog

Das ist nicht unser Dezember. So gar nicht.

Nachdem mein kleines Enkelkind am Mittwoch erfolgreich operiert worden ist, kehrte es am Donnerstag heim und am Freitag wieder ins Krankenhaus zurück. Mittlerweile sind weitere Komplikationen oder mögliche Krankheiten ausgeschlossen und es ist hoffentlich "nur" Magen-Darm.

Magen-Darm haben jetzt auch meine Tochter und das ältere Enkelkind.

Ich habe zwar kein Magen-Darm, aber ich kann keinen Satz zu Ende sprechen, ohne in ein ohrenbetäubendes Bellen - sprich Husten - auszubrechen. Damit hat sich die für Morgen anstehende Dienstreise in die USA erledigt und ich werde weiterhin das tun, was ich seit Freitag Mittag mache: das Bett hüten und literweise Früchtetee trinken.

Ich wünsche meinen Enkelkindern, meiner Tochter und mir gute Besserung. Es kann nur noch besser werden.

This is not the most beautiful December we have ever had. By far not.

After my little grandson had been operated on Wednesday, he returned back home on Thursday only to have to return back to the hospital on Friday. In the meantime all possible complications or illnesses have been ruled out and it is hopefully "only" stomach flu.

Stomach flu is also what my daughter and the older grandson are suffering from.

I don't suffer from stomach flu but I cannot speak a whole sentence without eardeafening barking - read: coughing. My business trip to the US has been cancelled and I will continue doing what I have been doing from Friday on: stay in bed and drink countless litres of fruit tea.

I hope that my little grandschildren, my daughter and I will get well soon. This can only get better.

Die Taufe / The Christening

Heute wurde unser zweites Enkelkind getauft. Nach der Kirche trafen sich die zwei Familien und einige Freunde meiner Tochter zum Brunch. Es war eine schöne Feier.

Our second grandson was christened today. After the church ceremony the two families and some friends of my daughter met for brunch. It was a nice celebration.

Den ersten Pflaumenkuchen in diesem Jahr gab es erst heute und wunschgemäß bleibt eine Ecke pflaumenfrei - für meine Tochter.

We had the first plumcake of this year today and as requested by my daughter there's a little part without plums.

Gestrickt habe ich auch, davon später mehr. Und natürlich haben wir uns auch das Fußballspiel gegen Hannover angesehen, zum Schluß war das 1:1 absehbar.

I have been busy knitting, more later. And of course we have watched the football match against Hannover, the 1:1 had to be expected at the end.

Wir wünschen euch Glück. / We wish you happiness.

Meine Hände waren auch fleissig / My hands were busy too

Auf den zahlreichen Flügen in den USA und während der Wartezeiten (die manchmal länger waren als gewünscht) habe ich kräftig an der Babydecke für mein zweites Enkelkind gestrickt. Die Farbe im ersten Foto ist total daneben, daher das zweite Bild mit der "echten" Farbe der Wolle:

On the countless flights in the US and during the waiting times (which sometimes lasted longer than wished for) I was busy knitting the baby blanket for my second grandchild. The colour in the first pic is totally wrong, hence the second photo with the "true" colour of the wool:

Und dann ist da noch diese Wolle bei "A Likely Yarn", die mein Kollege gekauft hat und aus der ich für seine Frau einen Hitchhiker Schal stricke:

Die letzte Woche war sehr arbeitsreich, der Jetlag erträglich. Und weil mein Mann lieber in Holland auf einem Boot rumschippert, als ins Stadion zu gehen, war ich gestern mit einem Freund live dabei, als der BVB mit einem 2:1 gegen Bremen die Saisoneröffnung gefeiert hat. Das Stadion war bis auf den letzten Platz gefüllt.

Und natürlich laufen auch die Hochzeitsvorbereitungen meiner Tochter auf Hochtouren. Ich verkleide mich als blauer Rebell :-)

The last week was extremely busy, the jetlag bearable. And because my man prefers sailing on a boat in Holland to going to the stadium, I celebrated the first match and victory of the season live with a friend last night, BVB won 2:1 against Bremen. The stadium was packed full.

And of course the wedding preparations of my daughter are in full swing. I'm going to be a blue rebel :-)

Ein Jahr / One year

Heute vor einem Jahr wurde unser Enkelkind geboren. Da es heute fast unerträglich warm war und ich erst mittags aus den USA zurückgekehrt bin, haben wir uns heute nachmittag nur für zwei Stunden bei meinen Eltern versammelt und seinen Geburtstag gefeiert.

Our grandchild was born a year ago today. Because it was too hot and I had only just returned from the US earlier this afternoon we met at my parents for two hours only and celebrated his birthday.

Übrigens steht am 28.8.2012 eine besondere Feier an: meine Tochter heiratet. Im engsten Kreis der Familie und ich werde ihre Trauzeugin sein.

There is going to be a special celebration on 28.8.2012: my daughter is going to be married. It will be family only and I am going to be her maid of honour.

Kyoto

Meine Tochter und ich waren heute im Restaurant Kyoto Sushi essen. Auch mein Enkel war zufrieden.

My daughter and I went out to eat sushi at the Kyoto restaurant today. My grandchild was happy as well.

Als ich nach Hause kam, fand ich ein Päckchen von meiner Freundin Nightglow und ich wußte sofort, dass sie mir etwas aus London mitgebracht hatte. Danke für die schöne Überraschung!

On my return home I found a small parcel from my friend Nightglow and I knew it had to be something she had brought back from London. Thank you for this lovely surprise!

Baby baby baby + baby

Unser Enkel ist über Nacht bei uns geblieben. Ich gebe zu, dass ich vorher etwas nervös war. Deshalb bin ich mit dem Kleinen ins Gästebett gezogen, damit ich nachts jederzeit aufspringen und Fläschchen machen konnte.

Aufgesprungen bin ich unzählige Male, der Kleine aber hat 10 Stunden durchgeschlafen! Als er beliebte endlich wach zu werden heute Morgen, war sein Fläschchen schon fertig und er mußte nur den niedlichen Mund aufmachen. Der heutige Vormittag war dann nicht so niedlich, aus uns unerklärlichen Gründen gab es mehrere Konzerte des Teufelchens bis wir uns den Kinderwagen geschnappt haben und mehrere Runden um den Block drehten.

Die glückliche Mama, die am gestrigen 11.11.2011 Geburtstag hatte, war feiern.

Our grandchild has stayed overnight for the first time. I do admit I was a little nervous yesterday. Because I wanted to be able to jump out of bed and feed the hungry baby at any time during the night I moved into the guestroom with him.

I did jump out of bed countless times but the baby has slept through for 10 hours! When he finally chose to wake up this morning his food was waiting for him and all he had to do was open his cute little mouth. The rest of this morning wasn't so cute anymore, due to reasons unknown to us there were quite a few concerts from the little devil until we finally took the pram and went for a walk around the block.

The happy mummy went out to celebrate her birthday yesterday, on the 11.11.2011.
