Irgendwann hatten wir die Idee, hier Gardinen aufzuhängen. Es folgte eine lange (und quälende) Suche mit vielen Stoffproben zu Hause, aber schließlich haben wir eine tolle Lösung gefunden.

Some time ago we had the idea to put up curtains in here. Followed by a long (and torturing) search with many curtain samples at home, but finally we agreed on a really great solution.

Spaßeshalber habe ich zwei Gardinenbahnen im Wohnzimmer aufgehangen und der Effekt gefiel mir sehr gut, mal schauen was wir daraus machen.

Der beste Aprikosenkuchen aller Zeiten / The best apricot cake of all times

Das wird keine Gewohnheit, es ist bereits eine. Wenn ich am Wochenende Zeit habe, backe ich Kuchen. Es macht mir so viel Freude und ich liebe Kuchen.

This will not become a habit, it already is one. When I have the time at the weekend, I bake a cake. I love making it and I love cakes.

Das Rezept habe ich bei Chefkoch gefunden. Man macht einen Teig und verteilt ihn in einer Quicheform, setzt die Aprikosen drauf und übergießt das Ganze mit frisch angerührten Vanillepudding. Dann wird das Ganze gebacken und zum Schluß kommt noch eine Haube aus steif geschlagenem Eiweiß, Eigelb mit Zucker und Schmand obendrauf. Dann wird nochmal 10 Min. fertig gebacken. Ein Traum.

I found the recipe on the German Chefkoch pages. Just make a dough and put it into a quiche form, fill it with apricots and cover with a freshly made vanilla pudding. Then bake the cake and finally make a cover consisting of egg whites beaten stiff, yolks with sugar and sour cream. Then bake again for 10 minutes. A dream.

Übrigens wird es hier bald auch mal wieder was von Wolle und Stricken geben, dieser kreative Teil ist in den letzten zwei Wochen etwas zu kurz gekommen.

Für die jetzt so schönen Bäder haben wir uns neue Steckdosen und Lichtschalter gekauft. Nach und nach möchten wir die ganze Wohnung mit einheitlichen Schaltern ausrüsten, denn bisher war von weiß bis blau bis braun alles dabei. In der Küche sind schöne blaue Schalter und Steckdosen, die werden wir so lassen.

There will be some more yarn and knitting content again soon, I've neglected this creative part for the past two weeks.

We have bought some new sockets and light switches for the now beautiful bathrooms. We are going to change all the sockets and switches in the whole flat step by step because so far it has been a mixture of white, blue and brown. The kitchen is equipped with nice blue switches and sockets, we are going to keep those.

Wir haben es fast geschafft / We are getting there

Das kleine Bad mit der Dusche ist jetzt fertig. Das Bild hat meine Tochter gemalt und mir zum Geburtstag geschenkt.

The small bathroom with the shower is now finished. My daughter has painted the picture and gave it to me for my birthday.

Im anderen Bad sind heute die Schränke geliefert und montiert worden. Endlich. Hier muss noch eingeräumt und dekoriert werden.

In the other bathroom, the cabinets have been delivered and assembled today. Finally. We still have to put away some things and look for some decoration.

Willkommen im Bad / Welcome in the bathroom

Seit gestern bin ich wieder zu Hause, endlich. Der Rückflug ging von Sydney über Bangkok, Umsteigen in Dubai und dann Düsseldorf.

Zu Hause konnte ich mich kaum noch auf den Beinen halten und um 18 Uhr lag ich schon im Bett. Dann habe ich noch die letzten Minuten des Spiels Spanien gegen Frankreich geguckt und glücklicherweise nach Mitternacht wieder geschlafen.

Mein Mann war in der letzten Woche auch nicht tatenlos und hat im Bad ein Stück Papier aufgehangen, wo der neue Spiegelschrank hängen soll. Leider ist das Gemälde darauf nicht sehr gut zu erkennen, aber es ist ein schöner Willkommensgruß.

I've been back home since yesterday, finally. The flight back was from Sydney via Bangkok, changing planes in Dubai and then Düsseldorf.

At home, I could hardly keep my eyes open and went to bed at 6 pm. I then managed to watch the final minutes of the match Spain vs. France and fortunately was able to go back to sleep after midnight.

My man has not been lazy last week and put up a piece of paper in the bathroom, it represents the future mirror cabinet. Unfortunately, the painting on it is very faint but it's a sweet welcome message. 

Während der letzten Tage in Australien habe ich fast überhaupt keine Fotos mehr gemacht, weil wir von Termin zu Termin unterwegs waren. Am Mittwoch und Donnerstag sind wir noch von Sydney nach Mackay und wieder zurück geflogen und diese beiden letzten Tage waren sehr anstrengend. In Mackay dreht sich alles nur um den Bergbau und die Fahrten zu den einzelnen Schachtanlagen sind sehr weit und öde.

I have taken hardly any photos during the last days in Australia as were very busy driving from appointment to appointment. We flew from Sydney to Mackay and then back again on Wendesday and Thursday and these last two days were quite hard. It's all about mining in Mackay and the drives to the mines are extremely long and tedious.

Freier Freitag / Free Friday

Schön, einen Arbeitstag frei zu haben. Es stand viel auf unserer Liste und die Hälfte davon haben wir nicht geschafft, nämlich in den Asienshop zu fahren und in die Stadt nach einer leichteren Sommerhose für mich zu schauen. Egal, mache ich morgen.

Aber das haben wir geschafft:

It's great to have a working day off. We had a long to do list and didn't manage half of the tasks. We didn't go to the Asia shop and to town where I had intended to look for light summer trousers. Nevermind, I'll do that tomorrow.

But this is what we accomplished:

Spiegelschrank für das Bad / mirror cabinet for the bathroom

Kommt in 8 Wochen, ebenso wie der schmale Schrank für die gegenüber liegende Seite. Alles in grau. / Will arrive in 8 weeks, same as the cabinet for the opposite wall. Everything in grey.





Klopapierhalter, Handtuchhalter etc. - fast so teuer wie ein Spiegelschrank / toilet paper holder, towel holder etc. - almost as expensive as a mirror cabinet



Gästehandtücher / guest towels

Die kleinen Handtücher finden wir so schön, dass wir wahrscheinlich noch mehr davon für das andere Bad holen wollen. Übrigens kommen die Trockner am Dienstag raus. Hurra.

Während das Rippenmonster mein lieber Mann die o.g. Halter anbrachte, bin ich ins Gartencenter gefahren und habe das jährliche Balkonpflanzen-Programm laufen lassen. Wer keinen Bock mehr auf Vorher - Nachher Bilder des Balkons hat, kann jetzt aufhören zu lesen.

We like these small towels a lot and will probably get some bigger ones for the other bathroom. By the way the dryers will be taken away on Tuesday. Hooray.

While the rib monster my dear man installed the above mentioned holders, I went to the garden centre and bought plants for the annual balcony plants programme. If you are fed up with the Before - After pictures of the balcony you can stop reading now.

Ich verdiene euer Mitleid, denn zu all dem bin ich auch noch krank und halte mich überwiegend in unserem Gästezimmer auf.

Ein Bad, ein Drama / A bathroom, a drama

Ca. eine Woche bevor ich nach China flog und ca. zwei Wochen nach Abschluß der Badarbeiten kam unser unter uns wohnende Nachbar morgens um kurz vor 7 Uhr zu uns und bat uns, nicht mehr zu duschen. Von seiner Schlafzimmerdecke tropfte es. Halleluja!

Was wir an diesem Morgen gedacht haben und wie wir den Rest des Tages in einem schockähnlichen Zustand verbracht haben, ist hier nicht Thema. Auf jeden Fall kam am Abend unser Fachmann und schwor Stein und Bein, dass beim Abschluß seiner Arbeiten alles seine Ordnung hatte.

Ein paar Tage später kam er mit einer Spezialkamera und beleuchtete und betrachtete alles, was zu einem Wasserschaden hätte führen können. Nichts. Also wurde beschlossen, im Bad ein paar Fliesen aufzumachen und zu schauen, ob nicht evtl. bei der Badewannenverlegung ein Leitungsschaden entstanden ist. Zur gleichen Zeit entdeckten wir das hier:

Approx. one week before my departure to China and approx. two weeks after the final works in our bathroom our neighbour living underneath us came shortly before 7 am and asked us not to use the shower any longer. There was water dripping from his bedroom ceiling. Hallelujah!

It's not the aim of this blog to describe our thoughts on that morning or the state of our shock throughout that day. Anyway, our Expert came the same evening and swore that everything was working fine after he had finished his job.

He came back with a special camera a couple of days later und examined everything that could have led to a water damage. Nothing. It was then decided to open up some tiles in the bathroom and see if there was a damage in the water pipes which could have occurred while moving the bathtub. At the same time we found this:

Den hysterischen Schreikrampf habe ich angesichts der Vollversammlung in unserer Wohnung unterdrückt und verwies auf meine Chinareise am nächsten Tag. Übrigens tropfte es von Nachbars Decke munter weiter, obwohl wir das Gäste-WC und die Dusche seit einer Woche nicht mehr benutzt hatten.

Mein lieber DH blieb also allein zurück und Herr Fachmann machte wieder eine Baustelle. Er fand den Fehler schnell. Es ist ein Riss in einer Wasserleitung, die offensichtlich schon vor langer Zeit schlecht verlötet war. Fachmann bekam also den Reparaturauftrag und die Versicherung einen Fall zum Bearbeiten.

I suppressed the hysterical screaming fit with respect to the plenary meeting in our flat and referred to my trip to China on the following day. By the way, the water was still happily dripping away from neighbour's ceiling although we had not used the guest bathroom and shower for almost a week..

Hence my dear DH stayed behind on his own an Mr. Expert came back and opened yet another construction site. He found the fault very quickly. It is a fissure in a water pipe which had been obviously badly soldered a long time ago. Expert got the repair job and the insurance company a matter to solve.

Nach meiner Rückkehr aus China sah es zum Glück wieder so aus: / Fortunately, it was already looking like this on my return from China:

Bald zieht hier eine Spezialfirma ein, bohrt zwei (drei?) Löcher in die Böden und stellt Trockner auf. Die sollen extrem laut sein uns sollten natürlich auch nachts laufen, damit das Trocknen des Betons schneller geht. Strom fressen sie kaum *g*.

Gut dass ich zwei Tage dienstlich in Frankfurt bin und bald für ein paar Tage in London. DH tut mir leid.

Very soon a special company will move in here and drill two (three?) holes in some floors and set up dryers. They are supposed to be extremely noisy and should run through the night so that it doesn't take too long to dry the concrete. They don't need much electricity *g*.

I'm glad to be going to Frankfurt on business for two days and for a couple of days to London soon. I feel sorry for DH.

Nicht nur Bäder / Not only bathrooms

Ms. Canada Dry meinte, es gäbe hier ja nichts anderes mehr als Bäder. Heute kommen die Bad-Bilder erst am Ende des Posts:-) Zuerst zeige ich meinen fast fertigen Pullover.

Heute morgen waren wir in einem Stadtteil von Dortmund frühstücken, dessen Ortskern ich mehr als 30 Jahre nicht mehr betreten hatte: Mengede. Dort ist das wunderschöne Café / Restaurant Froschkönig. Ich hatte French Toast mit Bacon und Ahornsirup, eine perfekte Mischung.

Ms. Canada Dry mentioned that I'd hardly post anything else but bathrooms. Today, the bathroom photos will be at the end of this post :-) and I'll show my nearly finished jumper first.

This morning we went out for breakfast in a part of Dortmund which I haven't visited for more than 30 years: Mengede. That's where the lovely cafe / restaurant Frog Prince is. I had french toast with bacon and maple syrup, a perfect combination.

Es ist das Modell Myrtha aus der Verena Herbst 2011 und ich stricke seit November daran, allerdings erst seit Dezember mit 3,5 mm Nadeln. Mit 4,5 mm Nadeln hat es mir nicht gefallen.

In diesem Zusammenhang möchte ich auf die Webseite der Designerin verweisen: tichiro.net, denn sie brachte mich zu meinem nächsten Projekt Vintage in Red.

It's the model Myrtha from the magazine Verena Autumn 2011 and I have been knitting it since November, but I restarted knitting with 3,5 mm needles only in December. I didn't like it with 4,5 mm needles.

Kommen wir zum wichtigsten Tagesordnungspunkt: / And now to the most important topic of the day:

Immer noch Woche Nr. 3? / Is it still week no. 3?

Ich bin es leid, verdammt nochmal! liebe es! / I'm bloody sick of this! delighted!

Es wird schön, sehr schön sogar. Es nervt aber königlich, wenn ich die ganze Zeit das Gefühl habe, Staub auf der Zunge zu haben. Und täglich die Böden zu wischen. Und die Türen mit Folie abzukleben. Egal, ein Ende ist in Sicht und am Samstag mache ich mich aus dem Staub!

In der Zwischenzeit hat DH die Decke im Gästebad fertig, es sieht sehr professionell aus. Fotos folgen.

It's beautiful, absolutely beautiful. But the feeling of a dust coated tongue is totally unnerving. And wiping the floors every day. And covering all the doors with plastic sheets. However, we are getting there and on Saturday I'm going to fly the coop!

In the meantime, DH has finished the ceiling in the guest bathroom, it looks very professional. Pics to follow.

Fachmann-Woche 3 / Expert-week 3

Heute morgen floh ich fast aus dem Haus, denn die Geräusche aus dem neuen Bad waren ohrenbetäubend. Da die Wanne jetzt unter das Fenster kommt, mußten einige Veränderungen gemacht werden.

I almost fled from home this morning because the noise from the new bathroom was earsplitting. Some changes had to be made as the bathtub will now be placed under the window.

Heute morgen war ich mit einer Freundin zum Frühstück verabredet und gleich danach fuhr ich mit meinen Eltern zur Bank, um Vollmachten zu unterschreiben. Ich finde es gut, dass meine Eltern zur Zeit vieles ordnen und regeln und gleichzeitig bin ich so dankbar, dass ich sie beide habe. Wir haben viel gelacht heute nachmittag.

I went out for breakfast with a friend this morning, followed by a visit to the bank with my parents in order to sign some authorisations. I appreciate the fact that my parents organise and settle so many matters at the time being and I'm really grateful to have them both. We laughed a lot this afternoon.

Küchen-Kunst / Kitchen-Art

Das kommt dabei raus, wenn es mir gut geht (zum Beispiel wenn ich Urlaub habe) und beim Kochen der Fotoapparat greifbar ist.

This is the result of my well-being (when I'm on holidays for example) and when the camera is in the kitchen while I'm cooking.

Außerdem habe ich gestern ein neues Strickheft gekauft (hab ja schließlich nur ganz wenige und ravelry ist auch nicht immer schön zum Blättern :-)

Other than that I bought a new knitting magazine yesterday (I haven't got that many after all and you can't turn pages in ravelry :-)

Ich liebe das große "Designobjekt", erinnert mich an meinen Job. Filzobjekte sind normalerweise nicht mein Geschmack, aber dieser Zeitschriftbehälter ist wunderschön. Bei mir wär's ein Behälter für Wolle und WIPs.

I love this big "design object", reminds me of my job. Felted works are not really my cup of tea but I adore this magazine container. It would be filled with wool and WIPs in my home.




Ach ja, und was wäre ein Blogpost ohne Bad? / Well, what would be a blog post without a bathroom?

Es gibt noch viele Kleinigkeiten zu tun und die Decke muß noch gemacht werden. Damit hat der Fachmann DH heute angefangen.

Gestrickt habe ich auch (sonst wäre ich in diesem Chaos wahnsinnig geworden), aber die Bilder zeige ich morgen.

Freitag - Ende der Fachmann-Woche 2 / Friday - end of expert-week 2

Mein Mann hatte heute Urlaub. / My man had a day off today.

Als ich nach Hause kam, sah es so aus. / It looked like this when I came home.

Hinter der Plastikplane ist ein kleiner Flur, dort geht es geradeaus ins Bad (s. oben) und links ins Schlafzimmer. (Ich freue mich auf meinen nächtlichen Badbesuch.)

There is a small hallway behind the plastic cover, from there you walk straight into the bathroom (see above) or left into the bedroom. (I'm looking forward to my bathroom visit during the night.)

Vorhin habe ich eine Flasche Sekt aufgemacht, denn jetzt habe ich Urlaub, schaue Fußball, stricke an meinem Pulli und genieße das Chaos.
