Wochenende / Weekend

Am Donnerstag machten wir uns auf den Weg von Rock Springs, WY, nach Park City, UT. Unterwegs kamen wir am Nationalpark Flaming Gorge vorbei und haben am Damm kurz Halt gemacht.

On Thursday, we set off from Rock Springs, WY, to Park City, UT. We passed the National Park Flaming Gorge and made a short stop at the dam.

Das Wochenende verbringen wir im Zermatt Resort in Midway, Utah, in der Nähe von Park City und knapp zwei Autostunden entfernt von Salt Lake City. Es ist eine sehr schöne Gegend mit hervorragenden Wintersportmöglichkeiten. Hier fanden 2002 die olympischen Winterspiele statt.

We are spending the weekend in the Zermatt Resort in Midway, Utah, near to Park City and an approx. two hours drive away from Salt Lake City. It is a beautiful landscape with fantastic winter sports possibilities. The winter Olympics took place here in 2002.

Going West

Gleich am Montag nach unserer Rückkehr aus Holland ging es für mich wieder weiter, diesmal in eine ganz neue Richtung - in den Westen der USA.

Den Westen der USA habe ich bereits zweimal bereist, aber es ist wirklich sehr lange her und es waren private Reisen (von Kalifornien bis Colorado war so ziemlich alles dabei).

Diesmal führen uns unsere Geschäfte nach Montana, Utah, Wyoming und evtl. nach New Mexico.

Immediately after our return from Holland I carried on to a completely new direction - to the West of the USA.

I had already been traveling the West before, but this was a very long time ago and those trips were both private (almost every country between California and Colorado). 

This time, business leads us to Montana, Utah, Wyoming and possibly New Mexico.

Zum Glück erst am Mittwoch ging es mit dem Flugzeug nach Salt Lake City, Utah (es ist fast wie ein Feiertag, wenn wir auf solchen Reisen zwei Nächte in einem Hotel übernachten können). Von Salt Lake City aus sind wir mit dem Auto nach Rock Springs, Wyoming, gefahren. Unterwegs hat es tatsächlich etwas gehagelt und geschneit, ich dachte ich träume.

Fortunately, we flew to Salt Lake City, Utah, only on Wednesday (it feels almost like a holiday to be able to stay in one hotel for two nights during trips like these).  From Salt Lake City we went on by car to Rock Springs, Wyoming. It actually snowed on the way there, I thought I had been dreaming.

Ein Ausflug nach Holland / An Trip to Holland

Letztes langes Wochenende waren wir mit unseren Freunden wieder in Holland, mit dem Boot am Sneeker Meer. Zum Glück war der Freitag sehr sonnig und nach einigen Stunden Regen kam auch am Samstag nachmittag wieder die Sonne raus.

We went to Holland with our friends for the long weekend last week, on a boat around the Sneek sea. Fortunately, it was very sunny on Friday and after a couple hours of rain the sun also came out on Saturday afternoon.

Unsere erste Station war Leeuwarden, wo einmal im Jahr der größte Blumenmarkt in Holland stattfindet. Das wußten wir nicht und die Freude darüber war sehr groß. Wir haben reichlich eingekauft.

Our first stop was Leeuwarden, where the biggest flower market of Holland takes place once a year. We didn't know that and were delighted to find out. We bought quite a few plants.

Die nächste Station war Akkrum. Dort wartete ein Freund auf uns, der abends mit uns grillte und die Nacht an Bord verbrachte.

The next stop was Akkrum. A friend was already awaiting us there, he joined us for a BBQ and stayed on board overnight.

Am Sonntag Morgen ging es leider schon sehr früh heim, denn am nächsten Morgen folgte gleich die nächste Reise - eine Geschäftsreise in die USA.

Unfortunately, we went back home very early on Sunday morning because the next trip was waiting around the corner - a business trip to the USA.

Westfalenpark

Letzten Sonntag waren wir mit Freunden im Westfalenpark, bereits zum zweiten Mal haben wir den Blumenmarkt besucht, der immer am Muttertag stattfindet. Das Wetter war ziemlich sonnig und wir verbrachten viele Stunden im Park.

Last Sunday we went to the Westfalenpark with a couple of friends and visited the flower market which takes place on Mother's Day every year. The weather was quite sunny and we spent a couple of hours in the park. 

Diese Gondel ist schon sehr alt, sie wurde vor einigen Jahren generalüberholt und fährt nur noch an Sonn- und Feiertagen.

This gondola is very old, it has been fully overhauled a couple of years ago and now it's in operation on Sundays and holidays only. 

Alles Spargel / Everything Asparagus

Noch am Abend vor dem Abflug nach Palma besuchte ich mit zwei Freundinnen ein Kochevent: Alles Spargel. Stattgefunden hat es in Meas Cucina in Schwerte (s. gleichnamige Website) mit Michaela Wendel (Mea). Gekocht wurde nur mit Spargel:

The evening before we took off to Palma I attended a cooking event together with two friends: Everything Asparagus. It took place in Mea's Cucina in Schwerte (see website of the same name) with Michaela Wendel (Mea). Everything was made with asparagus:

Asparagus with potato gratin and various sauces (note to self: remember to make the wasabi sauce)

Wir bildeten kleine Gruppen, meine Freundinnen und ich machten die Quiche. / We worked in small teams, my friends and I made the quiche.

Der Salat, es fing schon gut an. / The salad, it was great from the start.

Tipp für Kartoffelgratin: die rohen Kartoffeln in einem Löffel einschneiden. Einfach in die Form legen, sie öffnen sich von selbst. / Good advice for the potato gratin: cut the raw potato in a spoon. Just put it into the baking form, it'll open itself. 

Das Eis schmeckte hervorragend. / The ice cream was delicious!

Gestern habe ich die Quiche selbst gebacken, sie ist gut gelungen. / I made the quiche myself yesterday, it turned out well. 

Palma de Mallorca Tag 5 / Day 5

Am letzten Tag unseres langen Wochenendes sind wir nach Port de Soller gefahren, leider nur mit dem Bus, denn die schöne Eisenbahn befand sich im Streik. War auch nicht schlimm, so hatten wir mehr Zeit im schönen Hafen.

On our last day of the long weekend we went to Port de Soller. Unfortunately we had to take the bus because the lovely train was on strike. It wasn't too bad after all, we had more time to spend in the beautiful port. 

Palma de Mallorca Tag 4 / Day 4

Etwas außerhalb der Stadt ist die Festung Castell de Bellver, sie ist kreisrund. Am Sonntag haben wir sie besichtigt, die Aussicht auf Palma war herrlich. 

Am Nachmittag haben wir es ruhig angehen lassen, waren kurz in der Stadt und haben den Nachmittag auf unserer Terrasse ausklingen lassen.

Castell de Bellver is a castle a little out of town, it is one of the few circular castles in Europe. We visited it on Sunday, the view of Palma was spectacular. 

In the afternoon we went into town and then enjoyed a couple of quiet and relaxing hours on our terrace.
