Am Freitag waren wir alle bei "Nino" essen, meine Tochter und ich hatten Black Tiger mit Spaghetti bestellt. Das ist, was wir bekamen:

On Friday we all went for a meal at "Nino", my daughter and I ordered Black Tiger with spaghetti. This is what we got:

Bond in Motion

Für das Filmmuseum in London hatten wir uns für die Ausstellung Bond in Motion vorab Karten bestellt. Hier wurden alle Fahrzeuge, welche je in einem Bond-Film eine Rolle spielten, liebevoll präsentiert. Ich fand die dazugehörigen Filmausschnitte besonders amüsant.

We had preordered our tickets for the exhibition Bond in Motion for the film museum in London. All vehicles which had been playing a role in Bond films were beautifully displayed. I thought that the corresponding film clips were most amusing. 

Ein Freund von Dany hat das heute auf seiner FB Seite gepostet. Es hat mich nicht nur traurig, sondern auch sehr froh gemacht. Froh, dass er so einen guten Freund hatte. 

Wir vermissen dich sehr.

Rote Mohnblumen / Red Poppies

BLOOD SWEPT LANDS AND SEAS OF RED

Zu Ehren des 100. Jahrestages des ersten Weltkriegs wurde das Tower von London in eine große Kunstinstallation verwandelt, der Künstler heißt Paul Cummins. 888.246 rote Mohnblumen aus Keramik wurden hier aufgestellt, in Erinnerung an jeden gefallenen Alliierten.

Die Ausstellung wurde am 5. August eröffnet, dem Tag, an dem sich Großbritannien vor 100 Jahren dem ersten Weltkrieg anschloss. Beendet wird das Werk am 11. November, dem sogenannten Armistice Day (Tag des Waffenstillstands). 

Danach wird jede Mohnblüte für 25 Pfund erhältlich sein.

In honour of the 100th anniversary of World War I the Tower of London has been transformed into a large art installation, the artist is Paul Cummins. 888.246 red ceramic poppies have been installed, in honour of every fallen soldier.

The exhibition was opened on August 5th, the day Britain has become involved in the World War 100 years ago. The installation will be finished on November 11th, the Armistice Day.

After that, each poppy will be for sale for 25 Pounds. 

The Shard

So heißt der neueste Wolkenkratzer in London: der Glassplitter. Mit einer tollen Aussicht auf die Stadt und Umgebung. 

Kleiner Tipp: Karten online vorbestellen spart nicht nur das Anstehen, sondern auch viel Geld (wie wir heute erfahren durften. Anstehen mussten wir nicht lange, weil wir Punkt 10 Uhr morgens vor der Tür standen, aber der Eintritt war £ 5 teurer.)

A helpful hint: ordering tickets online not only saves some time at the entrance but a lot of money as well (as we have learned today. We didn't have to wait for long as we'd arrived at 10 am sharp but the entrance fee was £ 5 more.)

Was tun in London / Things to Do in London

Ich war schon so oft in London (und habe vor langer Zeit ein paar Monate hier gelebt), aber diese Stadt überrascht mich immer wieder. Nachfolgend eine kleine Auswahl an Dingen, die wir hier erleben durften.

I've been in London several times before (and even lived here for a couple of months many years ago), but this city never fails to surprise me. Here's a little choice of things we did. 

Das Liberty, eines der schönsten Kaufhäuser der Welt, mit einer eigenen Weihnachtsabteilung und vielen wunderbaren und exklusiven Sachen.

The Liberty, one of the most beautiful department stores in the world, with its own Christmas department and many wonderful and exclusive things. 

Buchhandlung Waterstones, wo man an sich schon Stunden mit Büchern verbringen und in der 5. Etage feinen englischen Tee trinken und Scones essen kann.

Bookstore Waterstones where you can spend hours with books and drink a fine English tea and eat scones on the fifth floor. 

Einkaufen bis zum Umfallen / shop until you drop 

Das gleiche gilt für die englischen Kneipen, vielleicht nicht ganz bis zum Umfallen.

Carnaby Street war für mich die Überraschung schlechthin, hier war ich seit 30 Jahren wieder das erste Mal. Von wegen flower power, ein hippes Geschäft nach dem anderen.

Carnaby Street was a real surprise for me, I haven't been here for more than 30 years. It's no longer about flower power, one hipster store after the other. 

Wochenende in London / Weekend in London

Wir verbringen das Wochenende zusammen mit Freunden in London. Die Männer wollen heute in's Filmmuseum und Automobile von James Bond anschauen.

We are in London together with friends this weekend. The men want to see the James Bond automobile exhibition today. 

Gestern hatten wir einen wunderschönen Tag und sind mit dem Boot nach Greenwich gefahren. Abends waren wir an den St. Katherine's Docks indisch essen und vorher haben wir uns die Red Poppies am Tower angesehen.

We had a beautiful day yesterday and went to Greenwich on a boat. In the evening we went for an Indian meal at the St. Katherine's Docks and had a look at the Red Poppies at the Tower first. 

Es war einmal in Prag / Once Upon a Time in Prague

Dieses Foto ist in den Mittachtzigern in Prag entstanden, es zeigt mich mit meinen beiden Onkeln Henry und Online. Das waren wilde Zeiten, in denen wir zwar Hotelzimmer bestellt, aber die Nächte mehr oder weniger durchgemacht haben. 

Heute ist Henrys Geburtstag und ich werde an all diese verrückten Tage denken, an die mit Karten durchgespielten Nächte, an die langen Autofahrten von und nach Šternberk, an die Gespräche und an das Schweigen. 

Du fehlst, Henry.

This photo has been taken in Prague in the mid eighties, it shows me and my two uncles Henry and Online. These were wild times, times when we had reserved hotel rooms but never slept in them because the nights were long. 

It's Henry's birthday today and I will think of all those crazy days, the nights spent with playing cards, the long car rides to and from Šternberk, the long talks and the silence. 

I miss you, Henry.
