Herbstfarben / Autumn Colours

So sieht mein neuer Schal ausgebreitet aus, ich liebe diese Mischung aus Orange und Grün. / This is what my new scarf looks like when it's stretched out, I love this mixture of orange and green. 

Die Wolle (Merino extrafein) habe ich in Hamburg gekauft, bei Wolleverliebt aus Berlin. Das Grün heißt Irlandreise und das Orange Herbstspaziergang. Wie passend.

Ich backe Brot / I'm Baking Bread

Am Samstag habe ich uns ein Brot gebacken.  Die Arbeit war minimal (alle Zutaten in den Thermomix, Teig in die Auflaufform mit Deckel und ab in den Ofen, für 1 Stunde), das Ergebnis fantastisch und sehr schmackhaft. Besonders wichtig: heute, nach 3 Tagen schmeckte das Brot noch frisch (was man vom beim Bäcker gekauften Brot einfach nicht mehr behaupten kann).

On Saturday I have baked a bread. It was minimal work (put all the ingredients into the Thermomix, the dough into a baking form with a lid and bake for 1 hour), the result was fantastic and very tasty. Even more important: the bread tasted still fresh today, after three days (something you cannot always say about bread bought in a bakery). 

Die Auflaufform gefällt mir dafür nicht ganz, aber das kann man ja ändern. / I don't much like the baking form for this but that can be changed. 

Und dann war da noch der Flammkuchen. / And then there was the Alsacian tart.

Das ist doch ein toller Blog-Titel, oder? / isn't this a great blog title?

Ich freue mich total, dass der BVB Shinji Kagawa zurück "nach Hause" geholt hat. Und wie wir heute sahen, braucht er vielleicht gar nicht mehr so viel Zeit zum Eingewöhnen. 

Des weiteren habe ich heute ein tolles Brot gebacken. Das Rezept gab mir eine Kollegin und mit dem Thermomix war der Teig fix gerührt und nach einer Stunde kam ein herrlich duftendes frisches Brot aus dem Ofen.

I'm really excited about Shinji Kagawa returning "home" to the BVB. And as we learned today, he will probably not need too much time to feel at home again. 

I baked my first loaf of bread today. A colleague gave me the recipe and the dough was ready in no time with the Thermomix, after one hour in the oven we had the best smelling fresh bread. 

Gestern hatte meine Mutter ihre zweite Augenoperation und ich hatte mir einen Tag frei genommen, um sie zu zu begleiten und natürlich auch zu fahren. Wir waren morgens sehr pünktlich zu der ersten Untersuchung und waren guter Hoffnung, nach einer Stunde wieder fahren zu können. Aber dann kamen einige Notfälle dazwischen und aus einer Stunde wurden insgesamt über fünf Stunden Wartezeit.

Am Ende war jedoch alles gut, die Untersuchung heute morgen war sehr positiv.

Yesterday, my mum had her second eye surgery and I had taken a day off from work in order to accompany her and do all the driving. We were one of the first for the first check-up early in the morning and full of hope that it would be over within an hour. But then there were a couple of emergencies and our total waiting time was more than five hours. 

In the end everything was fine, today's check was very positive.

Die Projekttasche muss noch in groß gezeigt werden, die ist so schön. / This project bag must be shown in large, it is so beautiful.

Der Sonntag war schon wesentlich angenehmer, es waren deutlich weniger Besucher da und man konnte in Ruhe schauen und die Einkäufe tätigen, die man sich am Samstag vorgenommen hat.

The Sunday was a lot more relaxed, there weren't as many people and there was loads of time to look around and do some of the shopping one had planned the day before.

In den nächsten Tagen muss ich noch etwas Platz für all die schöne Wolle schaffen und dann gibt es noch das eine oder andere Detailfoto. Und ich stricke wieder und darüber freue ich mich am meisten.

I will have to find some storage place for all the lovely wool in the next days and then there will be one or the other detailed photo. And the best news is that I'm knitting again.

So sah es am Samstag morgen recht leer aus, aber drinnen war es sehr voll und einige Stände wurden ziemlich belagert.

It seemed to be pretty quiet here on Saturday morning but it was very full inside and some of the booths were extremely busy. 

Es gab genügend Stühle und so bildeten sich mal kleinere, mal größere Gruppen zum Stricken, Lachen und Reden. Die Atmosphäre war sehr entspannt und zu sehen gab es wirklich außerordentliche Strickkunst. Viele Frauen trugen ihre handgestrickten Pullis, Tücher oder Schals und manche habe ich sehr bewundert.

There were enough chairs and some smaller or larger groups were formed where people spent time knitting, laughing and talking. It was a relaxed atmosphere and some extraordinary art of knitting could be seen. Many ladies wore their hand knitted tops, sweaters, shawls and scarves and I admired some of them.

Dieses Wochenende war schon seit langem geplant, denn so ein Stricktreffen und ein reichhaltiges Angevot an Wolle kann ich mir nicht entgehen lassen:

This weekend had been booked for ages because I can't miss such a knitters meeting and extensive offer of wool:

Zum Glück bekam ich über das ravelry Strickforum kurzfristig noch eine Mitfahrgelegenheit in einem Minibus, so dass ich mein Auto am Treffpunkt in Unna stehen lassen konnte und eine stressfreie und viel günstigere Autofahrt nach Hamburg genoss. 

Am Freitag nachmittag bin ich noch etwas durch Hamburg geschlendert und habe mir im Nivea Haus einen Wunsch erfüllt (s. Foto). Am frühen Abend traf ich mich mit der lieben Freundin Uncleneil. Sie wohnt in Hamburg und wir kennen uns seit vielen Jahren sowohl aus dem Internet als auch persönlich. Wir beschlossen spontan, Sushi Essen zu gehen, da wir beide das "Glück" haben, dass unsere Männer nicht Freunde dieser japanischen Küche sind. Das Restaurant Mr. Cherng ist sehr zu empfehlen, obwohl ich bei all you can eat Angeboten sehr skeptisch bin. Nicht in diesem Fall, denn die Sushi sind sehr frisch und die Auswahl ist ausreichend.

Fortunately I was offered a car ride in a mini bus via the knitting forum ravelry shortly before the trip, so that I could park my car at the meeting point in Unna and enjoyed a stress free and much cheaper ride to Hamburg. 

On Friday afternoon I took a walk through the city centre and visited the Nivea House where I fulfilled a wish I had (see photo). In the early evening I met my lovely friend Uncleneil from Hamburg whom I've known from the internet and personally for many years. We decided to eat sushi spontaneously as we both have men who are not really friends of the Japanese cuisine. I can only recommend the restaurant Mr. Cherng though I'm generally rather sceptical about of all you can eat offers. Not in this case as the sushi are fresh and the offer is sufficient.

Worcester, UK

Letzte Woche war ich nach langer Zeit mal wieder in Worcester in England, auf einer Geschäftsreise. Übernachtet haben wir bereits zum zweiten Mal im Diglis House am Fluss Severn und abends waren wir im schönen Kings Head.

Last week I've been on a business trip to Worcester in England, after a long time. We stayed at the Diglis House at the river Severn and went out to the pub Kings Head in the evening. 

Stille / Silence

Ja, es war lange still hier. Ob sich das jetzt ändert, kann ich nicht sagen, das wird die Zeit zeigen. Im Moment ist die Lust auf Bloggen eher gering. 

In der Zwischenzeit haben wir in Tschechien Abschied von meinem Vater genommen und ich benötige Zeit, um das zu verarbeiten. Wir haben sein Rad mit Rosen und Walnüssen geschmückt und durch den Wald auf die Lichtung geschoben, wo wir vor vier Jahren Abschied von meinem Bruder genommen haben. 

Am nächsten Tag haben wir seine Urne in's Familiengrab gelegt. 

Yes, it has been very quiet in here and I cannot even say if it's going to change again. Time will tell. At the moment I'm not really in the mood for blogging. 

In the meantime we have said farewell to my father in the Czech Republic and I need time to handle this. We have decorated his bike with roses and walnuts and have taken it through the woods up to the place where we had said good-bye to my brother four years ago. 

The following day we put his urn into the family grave.

Eine meiner Cousinen hatte sich an dem Samstag in Melbourne Zeit genommen und uns in das Yarra Valley zu den Weingütern gefahren. Wir haben ca. 4 Weingüter besucht und durften wunderbaren Wein probieren. Zum Schluss haben wir zwei Weinflaschen für unseren Abend beim Griechen gekauft und zum Essen mitgebracht. 

Ich liebe das australische BYO System - Bring Your Own bedeutet einfach nur, dass man seine eigenen alkoholischen Getränke in ein Restaurant mitbringen darf, insbesondere wenn das Lokal evtl. keine Lizenz zum Verkauf von Alkohol hat. In Deutschland undenkbar. Ebenso erwähnenswert finde ich die Tatsache, dass man überall eine Flasche mit Leitungswasser aus dem Hahn auf den Tisch gestellt bekommt (ebenso wie in den USA). Leider ebenfalls undenkbar in Deutschland, wo man sogar noch für das Glas Leitungswasser bezahlen muss.

One of my cousins took us out to the Yarrra Valley wineries on the Saturday in Melbourne. We have visited approx. four wineries and were able to taste some wonderful wine. In the end we bought two bottles of wine for our dinner at a Greek restaurant in the evening. 

I love the Australian BYO system - meaning the you can Bring Your Own alcoholic beverages to a restaurant, especially if the restaurant doesn't have a licence to sell alcohol. Unthinkable in Germany. I also love the fact that you get served a bottle of tap water almost everywhere (also in the US). Even more unthinkable in Germany, where you have it pay for a glass of tap water. 

 

Im letzten Weingut haben wir uns eine Käseplatte zusammengestellt, dazu gab es noch mehr (kostenlosen) Wein.

Letzte Woche Freitag hatten wir einen geschäftlichen Termin in Melbourne. Danach hatten wir das Wochenende frei und sind erst am Sonntag nach Sydney zurückgekehrt. 

Es war ein emotional aufwühlendes Wochenende, denn ich habe beide In Melbourne wohnenden Cousinen getroffen und viel über unsere verstorbenen Väter gesprochen.

Last Friday we had a business appointment in Melbourne. We had the weekend to ourselves afterwards and didn't go back to Sydney until Sunday. 

It was an emotionally stirring weekend as I'd met both cousins living in Mebourne and we talked a lot about our deceased fathers.

Seit Montag morgen sind wir in Australien. Singapur war ein schöner Einstieg in diese Reise. Am Sonntag sind wir ein paar Minuten in der Orchard Road auf- und abgelaufen und dann waren wir noch kurz im botanischen Garten. Es war ziemlich heiß und durch die hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit anstregend.

We arrived in Australia on Monday morning. Singapore was a great start into this trip. On Sunday, we went to the Orchard Road and walked up and down and then we went to the botanical gardens. It was very hot and tiring because of the high humidity.

Im botanischen Park stand ich in der Nähe dieser Palmen als ich ein seltsames Geräusch hörte. Keine zwei Meter von mir entfernt ließ sich eine Schlange vom Baum auf ein Palmenblatt fallen. Wer findet sie auf dem Bild? (Die restlichen Fotos habe ich noch im Fotoapparat).

I was standing near these palms in the botanical gardens when I heard a strange sound. This snake let herself fall from the tree branches onto a palm leave, only 2 m away from me. Who spots the snake in this picture? (The remaining photos are on my camera still).

Direkt nach unserer Ankunft in Sydney sind wir mit unserem australischen Kollegen in diese Bar gerannt und haben ab der zweiten Halbzeit gesehen, wie Deutschland Weltmeister wurde.

Directly on our arrival in Sydney our Australian colleague took us to this bar where we could watch Germany winning the World Championship from the second halftime onwards.
