Gestrickt! / Knitted!

I like this top a lot, although I thought that the wool was a bit too thick. But it is pleasant to wear and does not wear out when washed (it was washed in the washing machine at 30° yesterday).

Die Karlsbrücke in Prag / The Charles Bridge in Prague

... can not be visited on a "normal" day. You can still go there, but the stream of visitors will push carry you on  and you will miss the beauty of the bridge and many details.

Approx. 13 years ago we came home from a club in Prague at 4 am in the morning and had to cross the Charles Bridge. This was then one of the most beautiful moments in Prague.

Hence, I forced asked my cousins last Sunday to get up at 4:45 am in order to go to the Charles Bridge. These are our impressions:

(And yes, it was again one of the nicest moments in Prague.)

Cousinentreffen in Prag / Cousins Meeting in Prague

Last weekend 3 of my 4 cousins from Šternberk and I met up in Prague. It was a nice weekend. Originally, I had planned a business meeting in Budweis afterwards but I had to cancel that because of an important family affair. I changed plans more or less spontaneously and returned to Šternberk together with my cousin and back home last night.

Some nice photos will be shown in the next days.

A visit at Dany's place which is so beautiful (except for the new fire place).

Ich vermisse Dich sehr. / I miss you so much.

Wie schön, dass du geboren bist!*

*ein Geburtstagslied von Rolf Zuckowski / *a happy birthday song by Rolf Zuckowski "it's good that you were born"

Fortsetzung folgt in vielen Wochen.

My man/partner/companion (in crime) and I intend to get married later this year. How that could happen to somebody who never ever ever wanted to get married is another story. It may well be that this will not happen after all because I have made a mistake: I was born in Czechoslovakia.

I was born there and could not prevent being brought to Germany as a child. Therefore, I am able to master serious little problems with German authorities and I don't really mind sorting them. (Please note that I have obtained the German nationality in 1983 and that I am in possession of a valid ID card and passport - I don't know how that could happen.)

So recently I have packed my big file with various documents and my future husband and I went to the office in charge. Amongst others, I had to present a birth certificate which I do not have. I have a duplicate whose authenticity is verified and of course I have a certified translation together with a stamp and a signature. (Anyway, I have a lot of documents with many stamps and signatures, gotcha!.)

This does not apply. Directives are directives.

Now we don't have a date to get married (all our requested dates are gone) and I am a proud owner of a document of several pages which tells me how to proceed. In the best case, this will take only weeks, and months in the worst case - until I am born again.

And now the good news: today, my mum marches to the office of her trust in Šternberk (Czech Republic) and demands and receives a new birth certificate for me. But I am here! I am not there! Was I born in 5 minutes?

So now if the civil servant allows me to be born again I am going to be married. If we are prepared to sit several hours at the office (because they now don't have available dates). If there aren't any new demands regarding my personality. If if if.

To be continued in several weeks.

Qingdao, China

***

I've nearly forgotten to show some pics from Qingdao. My colleague had told me so much about this city and now I could finally visit it myself. I don't want to write much and will let the photos do the talking (but I will remark that the beer Tsingtao is of excellent taste).

Life on Mars!

***

A lovely friend from HH was in London and visited the David Bowie exhibition in the Victoria & Albert Museum. She was then so nice and wrote such a fantastic report about the exhibition, brought an exhibition catalogue back to Germany and sent it to me.

So many thanks to you, Uncle Neil!

Well, and that was it. I asked my man whether he wanted to go to London for his birthday, booked the flights and the hotel and quickly bought a membership for the V & A (all online tickes are sold out). We will go mid of July.

It's a god-awful small affair
To the girl with the mousy hair
But her mummy is yelling "No"
And her daddy has told her to go

But her friend is nowhere to be seen
Now she walks through her sunken dream
To the seat with the clearest view
And she's hooked to the silver screen

But the film is a saddening bore
For she's lived it ten times or more
She could spit in the eyes of fools
As they ask her to focus on

Sailors fighting in the dance hall
Oh man! look at those cavemen go
It's the freakiest show

Take a look at the lawman
Beating up the wrong guy
Oh man! Wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show

Is there life on Mars?

It's on Amerika's tortured brow
That Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow
Now the workers have struck for fame
'Cause Lennon's on sale again

See the mice in their million hordes
From Ibeza to the norfolk broads
Rule Britannia is out of bounds
To my mother, my dog, and clowns

But the film is a saddening bore
'Cause I wrote it ten times or more
It's about to be writ again
As I ask you to focus on

Sailors fighting in the dance hall
Oh man! Look at those cavemen go
It's the freakiest show

Take a look at the Lawman
Beating up the wrong guy
Oh man! Wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show

Is there life on Mars?

Ein Schmuckstück / A Piece of Jewellery

Man nehme:

***

Yesterday I stopped by at the wool shop and the sales lady mentioned something about the carboard roll and crocheting and making a bracelet.I am not creative, I never have ideas like that.

You'll need:

A little wool and the cardboard roll on which the wool is wound on.

Das Ergebnis: / The result:

I have very small wrists and the bracelet only just fits over my hand. And I know that I will not wear it. And now it's up to you: whoever wants the bracelet please leave a corresponding comment. First comment decorates first.

The other piece of jewellery arrived by post, from Dawanda and fliegenpilzle. I have chosen a piece of fabric from her shop and she made a needle case. Thank you so much for making it, it is really nice (and was ready in no time).

***

Before travelling to Qingdao, I always used to say that I love all kind of seafood. Turns out that this is not  quite correct. I don't like sea cucumber (even if it is so expensive and praised as a delicacy) and something called "sea skin" (I don't know if this is correct in English). If you'll have a look at the below pic of a sea skin you will probably know why
(and please: no insinuating comments :-)).
