Eines abends im März / One evening in March

Ich habe einen Cousin, mit dem ich mich vorletzte Woche abends in Sternberk getroffen habe. Soweit ja nichts besonderes. Es ist aber einer der Söhne des ältesten Bruders meines Vaters. Und dieser älteste Bruder, seine Frau und ihre drei Kinder (zwei Jungen und ein Mädchen) sind vor 42 Jahren mit uns nach Deutschland geflohen.

Danach haben wir uns 1973 noch auf unserer großen Familien-USA-Reise gesehen, meine Cousine S. seitdem nicht mehr. Die beiden "Jungs" habe ich als Erwachsene in Sternberk wiedergesehen, zuletzt vor fünf Jahren, aber nur für kurze Zeit.

Jetzt lebt aber einer von ihnen in Sternberk und wir trafen uns wie gesagt auf ein Bier. Es wurden drei Stunden und mehrere Biere, denn wir hatten uns viel zu erzählen und es war ein Abend, den ich nicht so schnell vergessen werde. Lieber Cousin, vielen Dank dafür.

Bei dieser Gelegenheit erinnerte ich ihn daran, dass wir als Kinder alle einzeln fotografiert wurden, kurz bevor mein Onkel und seine Familie in die USA auswanderten. Hier sind die Bilder.

I have a cousin whom I met in Sternberk in the week before last. So far, nothing noteworthy, but it is one of the sons of the eldest brother of my father. And this eldest brother, his wife and their three children (two boys and one girl) have come with us to Germany 42 years ago.

Since then, we have seen each other once during our big USA family trip in 1973, I haven't seen my cousin S. since. I've seen the "boys" as adults in Sternberk, last time 5 years ago, but only for a short time.

Currently one of them lives in Sternberk and as mentioned we met up for a beer. Our short meeting lasted three hours and several beers because we had such a great time and it was an evening I won't forget that soon. Dear cousin, thank you for that.

During this evening I reminded him that there were photographs taken of each child shortly before my uncle and his family emigrated to the USA. These are the pictures.
