Von Kohle und Mützen / Of Coal and Hats

Ab und zu erwähne ich hier meinen Beruf, meistens dann wenn es auf Geschäftsreise geht. Die letzte Reise führte mich für nur knapp 4 Tage in die USA, und zwar nach Litchfield, IL. Zu sehen gab es dort nicht viel, zu klären gab es alles und so ergab es sich, dass wir Untertage gefahren sind.

Es war mein zweiter Besuch Untertage, diesmal "nur" 200 m tief und es war sehr aufregend. Interessant ist, dass wir uns nicht komplett umziehen mußten - ich zog einen Overall über meine eigenen Sachen an und bekam robuste Gummistiefel. Vorneweg gab es eine kurze (Überlebens-)Einweisung und dann ging es mit dem Auto bergab.

Now and then I do mention my profession here on the blog, most of the times when I go on a business trip. The last trip took me to Litchfield, IL, in the US, for 4 days only. There was not much to see but a lot had to be clarified and therefore, we had a chance to go underground.

It was my second underground visit, this time "only" 200 m deep and it was very exciting. It is also interesting that we did not have to change all clothes - I simply put on an overall on my own clothes and got some robust wellies. Prior to going underground by car we received a short (hazzard) training and down we went.

In the longwall, it looks like this:

Wir hatten kaum Gelegenheit, uns auf die neue Zeit umzustellen, aber leider muß ich mir auf dem Rückflug extrem den Rücken verkühlt oder verlegen haben, denn seit gestern kann ich kaum laufen.

There was no time to get used to the time difference but I must have cought cold from a draught on the plane and my back has been hurting badly since yesterday.





Zum Glück kann ich aber noch stricken und halte meinen Kopf warm: / Fortunately I can still knit and keep my head warm:
