Zurück nach Downunder / Back to Downunder

Morgen geht es wieder (dienstlich) nach Australien, für fast zwei Wochen. Das ist keine so lange Zeit, wenn man berücksichtigt, welche Flugstrecke dorthin zurückgelegt werden muß. Wir haben sechs volle Arbeitstage (und Abende) und ein freies Wochenende zwischendurch.

An dem Wochenende fliege ich von Sydney nach Melbourne (Luftlinie ca. 705 km) und besuche meine beiden Cousinen Janie und Marcia, die ich fast 21 Jahre nicht gesehen habe. Beide Cousinen haben in der Zwischenzeit je zwei Kinder bekommen, die ich noch gar nicht kenne. Marcias ältere Tochter ist ungefähr im gleichen Alter wie meine eigene.

Mein Vater hatte zwei Brüder und keine ihrer Familien lebt mehr in Tschechien. Der ältere Bruder ist 1969 mit seiner Familie (Frau und drei Kinder) und uns nach Deutschland geflohen, zog jedoch kurze Zeit später in die USA - soweit weg von Europa wie möglich, so lautete das Motto meines Onkels.

Der jüngere Bruder floh in den siebziger Jahren mit seiner Frau und eben diesen beiden Töchtern erst über Ungarn nach Österreich und wanderte dann nach Australien aus.

Beide Brüder meines Vaters sind schon vor vielen Jahren verstorben und dank Internet und Telefon halten wir einen losen Kontakt zu ihren Frauen und Kindern in beiden Kontinenten.

Ich freue mich unter diesen Umständen sehr auf diese Reise und bin gespannt auf das Familientreffen.

I'm going back to Australia tomorrow (on business), for almost two weeks. This is not a long time considering the long flight distance. We are going to have six full working days (and evenings) and a free weekend inbetween.

At the free weekend I will fly from Sydney to Melbourne (approx. 705 km flight distance) and visit my two cousins Janie and Marcia whom I have not seen for almost 21 years. Both cousins have two children I have yet to meet. One of Marcia's daughters is about the same age as my own daughter.

My father had two brothers and both their families no longer live in the Czech Republic. The older brother and his family fled to Germany with us in 1969, shortly after that they went to the USA - as far away from Europe as possible, that was my uncle's motto.
In the seventies, the younger brother with his wife and the mentioned two daughters went to Hungary, then Austria and finally emigrated to Australia.

Both my father's brothers have passed away some time ago and we keep in touch with their wifes and their children via internet and telephone.
I am extremely looking forward to the trip under these circumstances and can't wait to meet all family members.
