VW Käfer / VW Beetle

Als ich vor 30 Jahren meinen Führerschein gemacht habe, hatte ich natürlich noch kein eigenes Auto. Ich durfte daher mit dem überdimensionalen Ford Granada meiner Eltern fahren oder mit diesem VW Käfer eines Mitarbeiters einer Werbeagentur, bei der ich damals als Putzfrau gejobt habe. Dieser Mitarbeiter hieß Wolfgang, war der kreative Kopf der Agentur und trug eine lilafarbene Latzhose mit der dazugehörigen langen Haarmähne und selbstgedrehten Zigarette. Wir hätten nicht unterschiedlicher sein können und wurden quasi im Handumdrehen Freunde. Sein VW Käfer war weiß und hatte kein Schiebedach, war aber trotzdem ein flotter Flitzer. Eines Tages habe ich Wolfgang zu uns nach Hause zum Frühstück eingeladen, natürlich ohne Wissen meiner berufstätigen Eltern. Just an diesem Morgen kam mein Vater unerwartet und völlig überraschend nach Hause, als Wolfgang mit Genuß in sein viertes Brötchen biß. Mein Vater war angesichts der lilafarbenen Latzhose und wallender Mähne und der GRÖSSE Wolfgangs (ca. 1,95 m) so überwältigt, daß er nach 3 Minuten fluchtartig seine eigene Wohnung verließ.

When I passed my driving test 30 years ago, I did not own a car and was therefore allowed to drive my parents' inordinately large Ford Granada or this VW Beetle which was owned by an employee of an advertising agency I used to work for as a cleaning lady. This employee's name was Wolfgang and he was the creative head of the agency, wearing purple dungarees together with a long mane of curly hair and handrolled cigarettes. We could not have been more different and became friends instantly. His VW Beetle was white and did not have a sunroof but it was a speedy beetle nonetheless. One day, I invited Wolfang for breakfast at our home, of course without the knowledge of my working parents. But on this very morning my father came home very unexpectedly just as Wolfgang was about to bite in his fourth bread roll. My father was so perplexed at the sight of this mane of hair, the purple dungarees and the HEIGHT of Wolfgang (approx. 1,95 m) that he took flight from his own home within 3 minutes.
