I am a true photofreak and while browsing through some old photos today I came accross the ones from 2005 when DH, a couple of colleagues and I went underground. As we are all in the "chain business" it seemed only right to go underground and see our chains in operation. It began with taking off all our clothes and we were allowed to put on only the clothes that had been lain out for us. Fully equipped, we went underground and reached the coal mining area where the plough was in full action. There, I had a minor crisis (due to running machines and a touch of claustrophobia) but after a short break and some nice words addressed to myself I could carry on the hazardous path through the mine. In the end, we were allowed to have a prone position ride on the conveyor belts and reached the starting point after another long march. I will never forget this picture: when we left the mine, a new shift began and all the miners came out of the dark, their heads illuminated by their head lamps only. The simple meal in the canteen was eaten in underwear and unwashed and the drinking bottles were empty in no time.
